Many books have been written about the importance of culture in an organization. Culture trumps strategy is a common refrain. However, how much time and effort does an organization invest in developing, nurturing, and improving its culture? Culture is based on history, trust, behaviors, and beliefs.
Years in the making, it can take years to change an organization's culture. But it can change. Autocratic, stifling, punishing, or moribund cultures can all be transformed and improved upon. At the same time, energetic, trusting, open, and challenging cultures need to be maintained which requires constant vigilance.
